Why can’t I update a record?
When viewing an Item record, you can click the Update button on the right of the screen to to edit the record.
If the Update button is not visible, this could be because the record is currently locked, or because you do not have the relevant user permission switched on.
If another cataloguer is updating a record and exits it without clicking either cancel or save, the CMS will prompt them to finish updating the record. Until they finish updating the record, it will display as locked to other cataloguers. When a record is locked, this is indicated by an icon of a pencil with a strikethrough at the right of the screen. Hover over the icon to view the name of the cataloguer who needs to finish updating the record:
Only users with the appropriate permissions are able to unlock records.
Alternatively, you will not see the Update button if you do not have the user permission associated with updating records switched on. To resolve this, make sure that you have permission to Update records. You may need to work with someone from your organisation who has permissions associated with managing VC members switched on.
