Is my data secure on Victorian Collections?

The Victorian Collections system and website are hosted by Museums Victoria. The same enterprise systems, standards, and operational practices used by Museums Victoria for security, backup, and disaster recovery are applied to Victorian Collections.

Data is stored within a managed local data centre environment, with secure and redundant storage architectures designed to ensure availability and resilience. Backups are performed daily and retained in multiple locations, including off-site storage.

Digital assets attached to collection records are protected using checksum validation, with periodic file verification processes in place to detect and guard against data corruption or degradation over time.

Museums Victoria maintains a strong focus on information security and is actively aligning its systems and processes with recognised best-practice frameworks, including the Australian Government’s Essential Eight mitigation strategies. Independent security testing and ongoing reviews form part of this continuous improvement approach.
