Two-factor authentication for your VC account

Two-factor authentication for your VC account

As an extra layer of data protection, Victorian Collections offers you the option to use two-factor authentication (also known as two-step verification) for your account.

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication helps to keep your data safe by creating an additional layer of security for your Victorian Collections account. This is done through an authentication process where you will be emailed a security code when you log in to VC.

This process offers a way for Victorian Collections to ‘check’ that you are the right person to be logging into your VC account.

Two-factor authentication provides enhanced security for your login and your collection, as it makes it harder for someone else to access your account even if your password may have been discovered.

Enabling two-factor authentication

To enable two-factor authentication, log in to the Victorian Collections CMS, and click ‘Your Details’ in the Account tile on the Dashboard. Beneath your email address, you’ll see an option to ‘Enable two-factor authentication’, as well as an option to ‘Change your email address’.

Before enabling two-factor authentication, please ensure you have access to the email address associated with your account.

To enable, select ‘Enable two factor authentication’, and follow the prompts. You will first need to validate your email address via a one-time security code sent via email. VC recommends opening your email in a new tab or browser to retrieve your initial confirmation code.

Note: this initial confirmation code will be a long combination of letters, numbers and symbols. Subsequent codes sent for login will be a series of 6 numbers.

When entering the code into the verification field, take care to ensure you aren’t inadvertently including any spaces before or after the code. You will now have completed enabling two-factor authentication for your Victorian Collections account

Two-factor authentication FAQs:

What does this mean for me?
If you decide to activate two-factor authentication, your sign-in experience will be different at least once a month when you login to Victorian Collections. The next time you log in, you will be sent a one-time 6-digit security code to your email address. You will need to enter this code to complete your login and gain access to your collection catalogue.

Will I need to use two-factor authentication every time I log in?
Every time you use a two-factor authentication code, you will be given the option to select ‘Remember this browser for 30 days’. If you do this, the Victorian Collections CMS will trust your browser and you will not be asked to provide a security code as often.  If you log in with a different web browser or from another computer, you will be asked to provide a new code.

What if I turn on two-factor authentication, but can’t log in anymore?
If you have any issues accessing your login for Victorian Collections, the VC Team is here to help. Let us know via submitting a ticket to our Helpdesk, and we will look at what might be causing the login issue.
