Since I began using Victorian Collections, I have known that the fields on the Acquisitions page are not viewable in a Public view of a record. Apropos of this, when I arrived at our archive today I was met with an angry.question from a donor as to why they were not acknowledged in an online record. I had to explain that this was how the VCMS system worked and was beyond my control (although sometimes I do add some information about donors in other general viewable fields). My questions are (and I have just viewed the manual to make sure that it is not mentioned there):
1. Why is the donors name not a public field? It certainly is a viewable field on the Museums Victoria Collections website - "Acquisition Information - Donation from Ms Barbara Brown, 15 Feb 1999".
2. Could VC add an option for the cataloguer to make public this information to the field showing the donors name?
What do people think?
